The Steps to becomming a Security Guard in Ontario
Hawthorne Security holds a mandatory 40 hour Basic Security Guard Course that is approved by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services in order to obtain your Ontario Security Guard license.
Step 1
- 40 Hour Basic Security Course (8 hours is credited for a valid First Aid/CPR Certificate) is held 5 days in a row from 9am-5pm with a 1 hour lunch break each day.
Cost is $250.00 + HST=$282.50
Step 2
- Upon completion of the course and provided a copy of a valid First Aid/CPR C certificate, you are issued a Course Completion Number that allows you to register online for the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services Exam that is conducted at your local Drivers Centre. ( It is NOT mandatory to use your local Drivers Centre, as scheduled test dates are different at different locations.)
Cost is $66.50 + HST=$75.15
Step 3
- Upon passing the written exam, you submit an application to the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services for your complete Security Guard License.
Cost $80.00
Step 4
- Once the application is processed and approved, you can print off a Temporary Digital Copy of your Security Guard License which allows you to begin working immediatly as a Security Guard (provided you are employed by a company that offers Security Guard Services or a Registered company that Employs Security Guards). You will receive your actual hard copy license in the mail in approx. 6-8 weeks.
2 Year Renewals
- Your Security Guard License will need to be renewed every 2 (two) years.
